Lobsang Nyandak

Born in 1965 in India to a Tibetan refugee family, Mr. Nyandak served in the Tibetan communities for 30-plus years beginning in 1987 as General Secretary of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Chandigarh, and worked in various leadership positions, rising to become a Kalon (Minister) in the Tibetan Cabinet of Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche in 2001. He held cabinet positions at the age of 35 and was responsible for leading three Departments – International Relations, Finance and Health. Prior to becoming a Kalon, he was elected to the Tibetan Parliament, the highest elected legislative organ of the Central Tibetan Administration, to represent the province of Kham in 1996.

Mr. Nyandak was actively involved in community service and the freedom struggle at a young age and held leadership positions in various organizations, including as General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress; Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Party of Tibet; Executive Director of the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy, and Managing Trustee of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Charitable Trust.  He also served as the Executive Director and the President of the Tibet Fund from 2013 to 2022.

Mr. Nyandak actively promoted Sino-Tibetan dialogue as the Kalon for International Relations and served as a member of the Task Force of the Sino-Tibetan Dialogue for over a decade and held meetings with Chinese officials in an effort to find an amicable solution to the Tibetan issue.

One of his outstanding services to His Holiness and Tibetan people was during his five-year tenure as Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to North Americas where he represented Tibet at the highest level of the American and Canadian administrations as well as the US Congress and the Canadian Parliament.
