Mission Statement
At The Tibet Heritage Institute, inspired by the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, our mission is to safeguard and perpetuate the cultural identity and spiritual heritage of the Tibetan people. We are dedicated to ensuring the survival and flourishing of the Tibetan civilization by actively supporting cultural and spiritual institutions that embody and sustain the essence of Tibetan spirituality and cultural identity.
At the core of our mission is the belief that preserving and cherishing the precious and invaluable treasures of Tibetans transcends borders and benefits humanity as a whole. The Tibet Heritage Institute commits to being a steadfast guardian of Tibetan heritage, fostering a world where the unique cultural identity and spiritual legacy of the Tibetan people endure for generations to come.
Why Preserve Tibetan Civilization?
The preservation of Tibetan civilization is imperative due to the profound and abrupt upheaval it endured with the invasion of Tibet in 1949. This marked the onset of an enduring and tragic process recognized globally, gradually eroding Tibet’s ancient heritage. Once the primary inhabitants of the Tibetan plateau, native Tibetans now find themselves relegated to second-class citizenship, becoming an increasingly marginalized minority in their own land. Presently, the Chinese government is implementing a national initiative, employing large-scale colonial-style boarding schools, aimed at sinicizing the next generation of Tibetan children. The severity of the situation led His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in a rare expression of frustration, to liken it to a “death sentence.” Preserving Tibetan civilization is not only about safeguarding a unique cultural legacy but also addressing the existential threats faced by the Tibetan people and their way of life.
